Protection At Cost Of Function
The biggest problem I've had with this case is, due to the design of the raised bevels at the front to help protect the screen from drops, it's quite difficult to execute swipe actions from the edge of the screen. Most commonly, you'll have difficulties dragging down the quick settings menu, both with landscape and even portrait orientation. Dragging app icons to a different home screen will also prove burdensome. On a similar note, because of the raised lip around the fingerprint scanner, your finger is now angled differently and your authentication percentage may be reduced until the scanner has learned the new positioning. I mainly got this case because I wanted something rugged that had the USB Type-C and headphone ports covered since I currently work in a fairly dusty environment. Haven't dropped my phone so can't comment on protectiveness but it seems fairly good. Contrary to what I had thought, the covers for the two ports is merely a rubber piece that you peel back and while the flaps and seal seem sufficient in protecting the ports from dust, there are 4 little slits near the ports that expose the area around the ports to dust collection; the case is well fabricated that aside from the exposed parts of the phone, dust won't be collecting anywhere else. An integrated screen protector was a bonus, however due to the quality, I would've preferred its non-inclusion. In bright light or in sunlight, you can see a matrix of tiny dots across the screen protector. You may be familiar with this if you've used older devices like the Nexus 4. This issue isn't really noticeable indoors. Another issue with the screen protector is when looking at it from an angle, you can see "oily patches". And while they don't seem to affect colors or viewing angle, they attribute to the cheapness of the screen protector. Lastly, the screen protector isn't as oleophobic as the Nexus 5X so fingerprints and smudges will be more noticeable. If I had to do it again, I would probably still get this case since it meets the requirements I'm looking for; however, it's certainly not the perfect case for me and there's a few points that could be improved upon.
