How Colorful Phone Cases Add Style to Your Wardrobe

Did you know, scientists estimate there are around 10 million shades of color in the world? With so much possibility, it's no wonder we find it challenging to find colors that work for us.

The benefit of this array of possibilities, however, is it gives us ample opportunity to style our wardrobe with colorful phone cases that make our personalities shine

But where do you even begin? With hundreds, if not thousands, of options available for your phone case, it can be overwhelming to decide what is going to work for you.

Fear not! We're here to help you figure out what colors work for you, what materials you want your case to be made of, and how you can combine these elements to create something truly unique. Keep reading for some extra info on why phone cases are even important to begin with.

The Value in Matching Your Phone Case to Your Wardrobe

Seasons change, as do our tastes. One day we can't get enough of a particular jeans and sneaker combination and the next it's the jumper that just makes you swoon.

Why can't phone cases be like that too? They're an intrinsic part of our identity. With the advent and monumental rise of smartphones, it's no longer unusual for someone to have a smartphone. What's more unusual is seeing a phone case that doesn't somehow convey the personality of the person wielding their cellular device.

Embracing Your Identity

The value in matching your phone cases to your wardrobe goes beyond the appeal of aesthetics, though it plays a big part. It shows off to the world who you are and what you like. It gives people a window into your personality and allows you to connect with like-minded people.

Perhaps it's a shared interest in a specific band or a contemporary fandom. Maybe it's even an interest in art history, and you see the person across the room with a Starry Night phone case that could be up on the wall right next to your cover depicting the Birth of Venus

We are spoiled for choice when it comes to trendy phone cases, so let's start by breaking down what cases are available, in a practical sense, and then have a look at why a phone cover is so important.

The Benefits of Phone Covers

Nothing is more frustrating than buying a new smartphone, only to have the screen crack a few days later after a minor fall. With the right phone case, that could have easily been avoided. Because we use our phones so much these days, there is always the possibility of damage.

When choosing a smartphone case that is as protected as it is stylish, we've got your back. Here are just a few of the advantages of investing in a phone cover.

Protecting Your Investment

Accidents happen. There's no way to predict when or if your phone is going to take an unfortunate tumble, and as careful as you may be, we all make mistakes. You may not even be at fault if your phone falls, but you're the one going home with a cracked screen if it does.

Phone covers also protect from more than just falls. They prevent dirt and dust from getting into the seams and damaging the inside, and they can often protect your phone from spillages and leaks.

The Aesthetic Appeal

These days a phone just looks weird without a cover. While they're designed to look sleek and beautiful, a cover allows us to enhance the smartphone's already attractive appeal. You can use colors, styles, even patterns, and textures to distinguish your phone from other models and show off your personality.

Increased Functionality

Modern phone covers offer more than just protection. With some styles, like the wallet case, you can even store bank cards and important slips in specially designed sleeves

A lot of phones also can take add-ons, like ring holders, phone straps, and charms, making them even more functional and beautiful to look at.

The Different Covers Available

We want to make a few considerations when looking for new phone cases, especially if you're a bit overwhelmed with how many options are available.

At the core of the issue, what we need to look at is:

  • Overall protection
  • Screen protection
  • Personal style
  • Customization and personalization
  • Colors and patterns

Let's look at some options we'd recommend that fit the bill. And, remember, anything that works for a phone case is likely to work for a tablet or iPad as well!

Hard Shell

A hard phone case is a hard shell-like case that snaps snugly onto your phone. They are molded specifically for a certain phone model. They're typically quite thin and light and contribute little bulk to the phone's design.

They normally cover the phone's back, as well as all four sides and, are available in an array of designs, from clear and transparent materials to assorted colors and finishes.

Gel or TPU Covers

Thermoplastic polyurethane, or TPU, is a plastic-based polymer that's flexible, transparent, and has a strong resistance to oils and liquids. Gel phone cases are often slender and light, with a variety of colors, and a matte or glossy finish.

Because of their elasticity, these cases won't shatter or crack, and they can endure a fair amount of rough handling. A gel case will protect the back and sides of your phone while remaining easy to carry.

Silicone Cases

Many people are familiar with silicone phone cases from the early days of smartphones when they were manufactured for some of the very first models. They were soft to the touch, slightly sticky, and grabbed the surface we placed them on. For a while, they were extremely popular.

These days, we will make most silicone cases out of a material called 'liquid silicone.' These are the most common cases you'll see on modern smartphones and though the difference between liquid silicone and traditional silicone is smaller, liquid silicone is harder while being about as supple as a gel phone case.

These cases usually have a matte appearance, are lightweight, and are resistant to fingerprints and dust.

Extra Tough

These cases are usually more durable than ordinary hard or gel cases. We can find them in a variety of forms, though the term "tough" is subjective, as it depends on how hardy you want your phone case to be.

Many people who work in the construction business or outdoor industries choose tougher phone casings. Some tough cases only come with an extra-strong reinforced shell that exposes the screen, while others offer a complete tough shell that covers the device's front as well.

Because of this, they are heavier and bulkier than your standard hard and gel phone cases, but they're ideal for anyone who needs a case that can withstand a lot of abuse.

Wallet Style

Wallet-style cases are a popular choice and often make for very cute phone cases. They're often made of leather, primarily PU (polyurethane) leather, but they can also be available in genuine leather.

These cases will typically feature a polycarbonate insert into which we can place the phone, as well as a leather flap that can we can fold over the front face. To access the phone and wallet portion, we open the front section like a book. Typically, the phone's wallet portion may hold 1-4 conventional credit card-sized cards.

If you keep your phone in a bag, this will help protect it from scratches. Because of the inner hard case and the exterior leather case, these phone cases are extremely protective. The only disadvantage is that the front and back protection can make them bulkier in the pocket.

Phone Skins

Phone skins are not technically cases, so they don't offer the same protection as other options might. That being said, they're a popular way of personalizing a phone while also protecting it from scratches.

They're usually made of vinyl, with a matte or glossy texture and a variety of designs. Phone skins are easy to make, affordable, and can look quite beautiful. However, they're not the most popular style out there, as people tend to prefer something with a bit more protection. We are trying to look after an investment, after all.

Understanding Modern Trends for Colorful Phone Cases

Today, embellishing the things we keep with us at all times is almost a requirement, from pretty water bottles to our phone covers. We do this because adding a touch of opulence brings joy and appeal into our lives. It also gives us the opportunity to show off a bit of our personality.

Modern trends are all about pushing the boundaries of fashion, and we see this in our day-to-day lives. Designers have been experimenting and playing with bold new ideas, from embossed, fluffy phone wallets to whimsical floral designs that reminisce of days past.

We want to teach you how you can experiment with the core fundamentals of design to find your ideal phone case. Let's start with the basics.

The Meaning of Color

While colors mean different things all over the world, there's no doubting the power they hold. The right color can not only pull an outfit together but evoke feelings and memories, even those hidden in the core of our identities.

While each color has its own general meaning, there are groups of colors that differ dramatically from each other, and each spectrum comes with its own feelings. For example, natural and muted shades give off a whole other vibe to artificial neons.

Nudes and Neutral Tones

The term nude has exploded in modern fashion, but it reaches beyond that as society embraces a more diverse outlook. We associate the color nude with neutrality, and because of this, it works well as an accent color for any other hue on the color wheel.

Typical nudes might be brown, tan, white, and beige, but we can expand that into other neutral tones like black, white, and warm browns and greys. We often associate nudes with warmth, authenticity, and calm.

Pastels

Pastels are definitely on trend again, and we don't think they're going anywhere. Pastel palettes are popping up all over the place, and they're reminiscent of candy stores and whimsical, impressionist paintings.

What is a pastel color? Think baby blues, soft yellows, and powdery pinks that almost feel like they'd taste of cotton candy. At its core, we define a pastel as any color with enough white in it to make it soft and pale while maintaining the original appeal of its base color.

Pastel colors are mild, soothing, and classic. By and large, we associate pastels with femininity, dreaminess, and delicate poetry. Combine this with an elegant pattern and you have a dreamy winner.

Dark and Moody

Moody, dramatic, and captivating. These are the characteristic of some of our favorite color schemes. Deep blue tones and reds like navy, burgundy, and even smokey greys, are a great way to show the more sophisticated side to your personality.

These colors are greatly accented with a pop of metallic or paired with nude tones to really bring them to life. Dark and moody colors are sultry, regal, and enticing. By the way, we'd class most jewel-toned colors as being dark and moody, wouldn't you?

Bright and Electric

Think fire truck red, lime green, or fluorescent fuschia. These colors evoke modernity, passion, and a particular fiery edge that other colors just can't compete with. They're definitely seen in more edgy designs, and the right color could enhance your whole look, giving you a more youthful vibe.

For example, red is the color of love, passion, and danger, but dark red is more sultry. Orange gives us feelings of creativity, enthusiasm, and youth, while yellow is for spontaneity and happiness.

Fluorescent neon hues and vibrant colors are electrifying and intense and can add excitement and vitality to any design.

Color Combinations

You should be conscious of how color combinations affect the overall message you're trying to send. They can complement one another, make each other stand out, mix together, or compete with one another. You'll need to consider their combined meanings as well as the impression you want to make with your blend.

Let's take a quick look at some of the most popular color combinations out there:

  • Yellow and grey
  • Navy and teal
  • Black and orange
  • Blue and orange
  • Maroon and peach
  • Blue-grey and sapphire blue
  • Pale nudes and chocolate brown
  • Purple and lime green
  • Coral and ocean blue
  • Black and white
  • Mint and navy
  • Forest green and sage
  • Purple and gold
  • Sky blue and white

These are obviously just an idea of the different color combinations out there, and the choices are near limitless. At the end of the day, if you like a particular color scheme, then go for it. And, if you want to know more about why certain colors work well together, why not brush up a bit on your color theory?

Material and Texture

Now that we've touched on color, let's look at how the right material can elevate your phone look. You may want to go for something more simple, like an embossed pattern on your case, but the options are countless.

What modern trends show us is that we can have a whole lot of fun with texture, from puffer jacket style phone cases to 3D animal heads made of leather. Why not try some of these on your next phone cover?

  • Textured fabrics
  • Embossed leather
  • Woven knits
  • Faux fur
  • 3D resin
  • Wood and bark
  • Jeweled and diamante

You could have your pick of textures or materials, and your phone case would be the envy of every passerby.

Symbols and Images

Whether it's a designer's logo or a peace sign, images and symbols have the power to represent our personality with just a few simple lines and shapes. They say an image speaks a thousand words, so why not say a few words of your own?

Why not try a popular franchise logo or a delicate floral design? You could have band logos or spiritual icons like the Tree of Life. You could even explore playing with geometric shapes combined with natural elements like cosmos or your favorite animal. The choice is yours!

Monogrammed Cases

Finally, we come to the pièce de résistance. Nothing says classic like a simple case in your choice of color, with your initials in a bold, energetic font. You could match your monogrammed case with your best friend or significant other and give your phone the personal flourish it so desperately wants.

Monogramming has always been popular, since even as early as the 6th century B.C.E, when the ancient Greeks would issue coins with the first two letters of a city's name. From the late 1600s onwards, monograms became a symbol of power, when military leaders and royalty would use them to remind people of their power.

It's a tradition steeped in opulence and prosperity, so why not bring a bit of that into your daily life?

Accessories for Your Phone

We're not just talking screen protectors and wireless headphones here, though those can be great. When we talk about accessories, we're talking about that extra bit of glam or personalization that brings your whole phone design to life, even in your home.

Phone Straps

Beaded bracelets and necklaces have always been in fashion, and they've made a notable comeback, so why not try a beaded phone strap for your case? Or even something that represents your personal style more, like a disco ball, or a cute animal model.

You can even experiment with different materials for your straps, like leather, silicone, and even handmade knitted or crocheted straps. Phone straps are a fun and affordable way of changing out the style of your phone case on a day-to-day basis.

Stickers

Stickers have also been all the rage over the last few years, and we don't see that going away anytime soon. Take your pick from fun, bubble stickers, or something more delicate, like a bouquet of roses. Stickers are a great way to explore your personal style, and they can often be easily removed and swapped out for a new one when you need a refresh.

Phone Bags

We're moving a little away from phone cases now, though plenty of phone bags have ample room to store your padded case as well as a spare lipstick. We know on nights out; you don't want to be lugging a whole handbag around, so why not try something that's designed to keep the most important thing you have safe?

Phone Ring Holders

Another great way to add a little extra safety to your phone case, while extending the design of your choice. You could go for something classic and sleek, like an all-gold ring holder, or something that channels the essence of your phone case, like a marbled, ocean blue.

The choice is all yours, and you can rest easy knowing you won't be dropping your phone anytime soon.

In the Know, In Style

With dozens of textures, materials, and colors to choose from, we just know you're going to come up with something that really fits your personality. And, if you need a little extra something, you've got your pick of accessories to choose from.

Aesthetic phone cases are about more than just matching your outfit. They're about showing off who you are, the things you like, and the value in your personality.

Even though trends come and go, authentic style is immortal. Check out our selection of classic phone cases for your next adventure into the world of colorful phone cases!
