iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13: What Are the Differences?

There are more than one billion iPhone users worldwide. And many of these users love to treat themselves to a new iPhone as soon as one is released. So, with the new iPhone 14 having just been released, many are lining up to trade in for this upgraded model.

When it comes to choosing between the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13, there are several key factors. From upgraded software to camera enhancements, the iPhone 14 certainly has some advantages over the iPhone 13. However, there are still iPhone 13 features that users love.

The differences between the iPhone 13 and 14 will be the key factors that users use to decide whether it's time for an upgrade. To find out the main differences between the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14, look at the list below.

iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13 Camera

iphone 14 camera

Everyone wants a better camera, no matter what phone they have. For Instagram and TikTok, your camera is the most important feature of your phone, so you want it to be the best it can be to capture the most detailed footage.

There are some upgrades from the iPhone 13 camera to the iPhone 14. This includes the rear and front cameras, and the technology used to capture video. These upgrades offer more detailed images and quality enhancement so that every picture and video you take looks as good as possible.

The iPhone 13 was highly regarded as having one of the best cameras out there. Thankfully, it's looking like the iPhone 14 has simply made improvements on this already excellent camera instead of completely changing it.

Back Cameras

That's why one of the best upgrades for the iPhone 14 has been its camera. Both the rear cameras are 12MP, which was also the case for the iPhone 13. You will still have your main rear camera and an ultrawide shooter to accurately capture those wide shots.

However, the main camera sensor of the iPhone 14 is huge and has much bigger pixels than the iPhone 13. This allows for more intense shots that capture minute details even at great distances. This is any camera lover's dream.

You'll find that the videos and pictures you capture with your rear camera hold the detail of each image even as you zoom in. These camera upgrades also greatly improve focus, so blurry images are a thing of the past.

While the iPhone 13 rear cameras were excellent, they lacked the precision that comes with more professional cameras. This concern is a thing of the past with the iPhone 14's rear cameras. The autofocus and extreme attention to detail make every shot look like a professionally captured image.

Front Cameras

Apple has added a TrueDepth feature to the iPhone 14 that lets the front camera perform like never before. It will enable you to take pictures in low light and even darkness with precision and without that annoying glare present in other iPhone cameras, including the 13.

For the technically inclined, the iPhone 14 camera has a ƒ/1.9 aperture. This allows these low-light images to be captured so well. The iPhone 13, alternatively, has an f/2.2 aperture, which doesn't offer the same level of detail.

You'll also love the iPhone 14’s autofocus feature. It allows you to take more detailed photos, focusing quickly on the features you want.

The iPhone 14 front camera means your selfies will look better than ever! These upgrades result to less distortion in pictures taken with the front-facing camera, making your pics Insta-ready.

The iPhone 13 also had a great quality front camera. However, the iPhone 14 changes

the front camera game that the iPhone 13 simply can't compete with.

The level of detail and the lack of distortion, especially in facial features, is enough to tempt any iPhone user into upgrading simply for the camera.

Video

There aren't too many changes between the iPhone 13 and 14 in terms of video. Both still offer a great range of motion and precisely capture moving images

However, the iPhone 14 comes with a new "Action Mode." This setting increases stabilization. It allows video to be captured regardless of whether the photographer or filmed object is moving.

This gives even the most amateur videographers a chance to record some great footage and make it look professional. It's an ideal feature in a world where video footage can be monetized.

However, the iPhone 13 and 14 capture

detailed and accurate video. Most users won't be tempted to upgrade simply for minor video-capturing enhancements.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Software

The latest iPhone software is iIOS 16. This new software is available on all iPhones after the iPhone 8, including the 13 and 14.

This software will let you customize your lock screen, enabling you to add helpful apps and widgets to access them quickly. You'll also have a range of updates to messages, maps, and more.

The upgraded software lets you make your iPhone completely your own. You'll also be able to un-send iMessages for up to two minutes after you send them. This allows you ultimate freedom in talking to and staying in contact with your friends and loved ones.

As with any iOS upgrade, you'll likely notice cosmetic changes to your iPhone display. These improve the overall look of your iPhone, be it an iPhone 13 or 14.

iPhones run on the same software, so there is no difference between the iPhone 13 and 14 in terms of such. Both will be able to get the next round of updated software when it becomes available.

However, Apple usually gears its upgrades towards newer iPhones. Eventually, the software upgrades will also make improvements to elements only available on the iPhone 14. Keep an eye out for software upgrade announcements to stay in the loop.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Charger

iphone 13 magsafe charging

iPhone chargers have become more expensive lately. While you can always use an unbranded model, the genuine Apple chargers tend to charge your phone much more quickly.

These chargers usually have a hefty price tag.

Thankfully, you can charge your iPhone 14 with your old iPhone 13 charger. The charging port is the same, so you don't need to buy a new charger if you decide to get the iPhone 14.

You can also charge your iPhone 14 wirelessly, just like the iPhone 13. Just choose a "made for Magsafe" charger as they

upport and protect your iPhone whilst it charges.

With a Magsafe charger, you won't have to worry about your iPhone 13 or 14 overheating. They will also charge exceptionally quickly using one of these chargers. These chargers are safe and have been designed to enhance smartphone performance.

MagSafe chargers are great for iPhone 13 and iPhone 14. They quickly learn your charging habits for

peak battery performance. They'll also avoid overcharging your phone, which can negatively impact its battery life.

Do Either iPhones Have a Radio?

Unfortunately, the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 still don’t have a radio feature. The technology for this doesn't suit how iPhones are built.

Of course, you can get radio through the internet now, so Apple engineers don't view adding an FM radio app as a priority. As Wifi is not always readily available, this is still an issue for iPhone users who want to listen to the radio.

With all the other features available on the iPhone 13 and 14, FM radio has taken a backseat. Perhaps with newer models or even software upgrades, this might be something Apple can work toward in the future.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Price

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Price

Price is always an important factor when buying a new phone. iPhones have jumped in price with the release of newer models.

When it first hit the shelves, an iPhone 13 usually cost you around $799 brand new. While plenty of payment options are available, this is still a hefty price tag for many people.

However, thanks to the release of the new iPhone 14, the cost of an iPhone 13 will likely fall dramatically in the next few weeks. This seems to be the pattern with iPhones. As newer models hit the shelves, older ones are made much less expensive so that stock can be cleared.

An iPhone 14 has different prices depending on your memory option.

At the moment, the cheapest model is $749. However, $100 is added for each upgrade in memory.

An iPhone 14 with 512GB of storage will cost $1099. Again, there are many

payment options available. Many normal phone users won't require this much memory.

Whether or not this price is worth it for the iPhone 14 depends on what you use your phone for. If you're a budding videographer who needs huge storage and enhanced battery life, it could be just the phone for you. However, you definitely won't need all this storage to make TikToks.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Overall Look

From flip phones to giant phones that you can barely fit in your hand, the aesthetic of mobile has always been important. And the new iPhone is no different.

The truth is there isn't a huge

difference between the look of the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14. iPhones have steadily been getting bigger over the years, and the 13 and 14 are fairly similar sizes.

However, the iPhone 14 is slightly thicker than the 13. This has made the new iPhone less prone to breakages and was also a necessary upgrade to incorporate camera changes. This means that iPhone 13 cases won't fit the iPhone 14 well.

The 14 has a glass back, following the trend of its predecessors. While this is an aesthetically pleasing feature, iPhone glass backs are always prone to breaking and cracking. So, to protect your phone, always purchase a case.

The iPhone 14 also comes in a new color,

an atmospheric purple. This shade is stunning, and it's a shame older iPhone models aren't available in the same color. The red and blue iPhone 14's are also upgraded, and the colors seem to pop more.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Battery Life

Most iPhone users have a love-hate relationship with their phone's battery. Sure, it might charge quickly with the right charger. However, older batteries tend to run down exceptionally quickly, which is a cause of concern for every iPhone user.

The iPhone 13 battery was praised for lasting longer than the iPhones that came before it. Apple designed this battery to last up to 15 hours, which is pretty impressive given the iPhone 13’s amazing features.

However, with the iPhone 14, Apple has upped its game once again. This newer iPhone model will last a total of 16 hours. It may not seem like any big progress has been made, but this additional hour will certainly come in handy.

The iPhone 14 has been increased by 1.6% from the iPhone 13 battery. While the iPhone 13 had a much bigger jump (up 14.6% from the iPhone 12), this increase is still useful. It's also impressive, given the extra features of the iPhone 14.

Apple continues to work on the iPhone battery. Whether or not this extra hour of battery life is worth paying the high price of the iPhone 14 is simply down to the user.

iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 13 Features

iphone 14 plus features

One major feature change is the inclusion of an emergency SOS service for emergency texts even in areas with no signal. While this may seem impossible, the technology behind it is pretty simple. Your phone connects to the various satellites in space, and they can send your messages back to the appropriate service on earth.

This is a seriously great upgrade for the iPhone, and one that Apple users have been hoping for quite some time. Apple hopes this will keep their users safer and leave them feeling more secure as they take their iPhone 14 on adventures.

Apple has also added a force sensor to the iPhone 14. If you are in a collision or accident, your phone will immediately prompt you to call emergency services. This is an advantage for those suffering from shock following an accident who may need to be reminded to phone an ambulance.

If you can’t call, give your iPhone permission to call these services, and it will do so automatically after some time. If you are knocked unconscious by an accident, medical services will arrive more quickly, thanks to this new iPhone 14 feature.

Is There Anything Else to Know?

Apple has added a new sound feature to the iPhone 14. Whilst it isn't the most useful in terms of functionality, it is entertaining.

When you turn your iPhone 14 on or off, you can choose to have a delightful "chime" sound You'll find this new feature in the "Audio/Visual" section of the settings.

This new feature is a fun way to wake your iPhone up or shut it down. You don't have to have the chimes switched on if you don't want to.

The apps available on the iPhone 13 are still available for the iPhone 14. Anything you want to download is easily accessible within the app store.

Model Options For iPhone 13 and 14

Apple loves to give its users plenty of choices regarding the phones they buy. Thankfully, there are different model options for the iPhone 13 and the iPhone 14.

The iPhone 13 comes in a mini version not yet available for the iPhone 14. It's a smaller version of the iPhone 13 and is phone option.

You can also choose between the iPhone 13 Pro and the iPhone 13 Pro Max. Both these models have slightly larger batteries, so they can hold more power.

The iPhone 14 has a standard model and a Pro model. The iPhone pro is reported to have a 23-hour battery life, but this has yet to be confirmed by actual users. More models will likely be released sooner rather than later, starting with the iPhone 14 Pro Max.

Neither the various iPhone 13 nor 14 models offer many huge upgrades or changes. There are some minor enhancements to each one, but these also affect the cost of the different models. The bump in price for the different models may not appeal to users who don't want to spend a lot of money on fairly similar phone models.

What Are Some Features That Haven't Changed?

Despite the thickness difference between the two iPhones, the screen size has remained the same. Both the iPhone 13 and 14 have screen sizes of 6.1 inches. It's a great size for a phone screen and gives you access to every corner of your screen.

The brightness levels on both phones also haven't changed. The max brightness setting on both is 1200 nits (HDR). iPhone users have never had any reason to complain about screen brightness, so it's no wonder Apple hasn't made any changes in this area.

Whether Apple will upgrade these features in the future is anyone's guess. However, as long as users continue to be happy with the screen size and brightness display, they don't need to. As the old saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!"

The Big Question: Is the Upgrade Worth It?

upgrade from iphone 13 to iphone 14

The answer depends on what you want most from your iPhone. If you need an upgraded camera with extreme storage, then the iPhone 14 is just what you're looking for.

The extra features, such as the emergency SOS service and the force sensor, are also useful. However, iPhone users have been getting on just fine without these features in the past, so it's hard to say whether they're enough to make people want to upgrade.

Plus, it's important to remember that the iPhone 13 is still very impressive. It revolutionized the smartphone game in terms of its battery life upgrade. While the iPhone 14 offers a minor boost to battery life, it can't compare to the iPhone 13's next-level upgrade.

The iPhone 13 will also come with a reduced price tag if you're prepared to wait long enough. This could make it a more attractive buy for bargain-hunting iPhone users.

However, the iPhone 14 will continue to receive the next set of upgrades that Apple brings out in terms of technology. This might become obsolete for older iPhones, so upgrading to the iPhone 14 is something to consider.

A new iPhone is always an expense, so it's important to consider your upgrade options carefully. You can discuss various contract options for both the iPhone 13 and 14 with your provider to make sure you're always getting the best deal.

The iPhone 14 Has Some Excellent Upgrades

When it comes to the iPhone 14 vs iPhone 13, the 14 has some really useful upgrades. From increased battery life to some great new camera features, the iPhone 14 is certainly set up to be the must-have phone this year.

However, the price is undoubtedly slightly off-putting. Some iPhone users won't think that the new iPhone 14 is worth the money, and many will stick to their trusty iPhone 13. One way or another, both phones are great, and both serve as a testament to modern mobile engineering.
