With a price tag of $1,799 for the cheapest model (the 256GB model), the Samsung Fold 4 is quite an expensive smartphone. However, the price is somewhat justified with the impressive specifications and features users are able to enjoy in this upgraded model.
Officially called the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4, this phone is the latest addition to the company’s line of foldable smartphones. It features a larger display than its predecessor, the Galaxy Fold, and a new hinge design that allows for a more compact fold.
Overall, the Samsung Fold4 is an impressive piece of technology that sets the bar for the future of foldable phones. But we know that when choosing a Samsung phone, it can be difficult to know which Samsung phone to buy.
Here are ten interesting facts about the Samsung Fold4 to help make your decision easier.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 was officially released on August 26th, 2022. However, pre-orders for this Samsung phone were made available after the announcement of the 2022 Samsung Unpacked event in mid-August.
Other interesting announcements made at the event included the launch of the Galaxy Z Flip4 Bespoke edition of the phone. With the option to get a “bespoke” smartphone, users now have the option of choosing between five body colors and three frame colors.
The ability to mix and match the colors means that you can potentially design a Galaxy Flip4 one of 75 different ways. This gives users a bit more customization options than simply relying on adding color via a Flip4 phone case.
Samsung Phone Pros & Cons
Before diving into what’s new about the Samsung Fold4, let’s briefly talk about the pros and cons of getting a Samsung phone versus something like the iPhone 14.
Samsung has been one of the leading phone manufacturers for many years. They have a great reputation for making quality products that are popular with consumers.
Samsung phones offer a number of benefits, including a wide range of features, good performance, and great value for money. However, there are also some potential drawbacks to consider before buying a Samsung phone.
For example, Samsung phones can be more expensive than other brands, and they may not be compatible with all carriers.
The Samsung Fold4, for example, has a current price tag of $1,799 whereas the iPhone 14 is expected to start at just $799 for the basic version. The iPhone 14 Pro Max, the most premium version available, will only go up to about $1,199. That’s quite a difference.
Additionally, Samsung cameras vs. iPhone cameras tend to be a big subject of debate. Samsung makes some of the best Android phones on the market, and their camera hardware is usually excellent. The same can be said of iPhones.
However, Samsung phones traditionally have better low-light performance thanks to larger sensors and optical image stabilization. They also offer more advanced features like manual mode and RAW support.
On the other hand, iPhone cameras have historically had better video quality and offer easier-to-use software that's more geared toward casual users. So, which is better? It really depends on your needs and preferences.
Simply keep these types of things in mind when choosing a Samsung phone.

10 Things You Didn’t Know About the Samsung Fold4
You have questions about the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 release, and we’ve got the answers for you in the form of these ten things you likely didn’t know about this Samsung smartphone.
1. There’s a Difference Between a Fold4 vs. Flip4
The Galaxy Flip flips down onto itself like the old flip phones of the early 2000s. The Galaxy Folds into itself like you might close a book.
Ultimately, the Galaxy Fold is a foldable phone with a large display that can be unfolded to provide a tablet-like experience. On the other hand, the Galaxy Flip has a smaller display that flips open to reveal a secondary display.
In this sense, the Galaxy Flip doesn’t necessarily offer you any additional screen space. The Galaxy Fold does, though.
2. Screen Size Differs Between a Cover Display and the Main Display
You can use one screen of your Galaxy Fold4 or you can open it up for a much larger display. While the display looks and works much like previous versions of the Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Fold4 allows you to enjoy a cover display and the main display.
The screen size of the cover display on the Fold4 is 6.2 inches whereas, when you open it up, it stretches out to a 7.6-inch display. The foldable features essentially allow you to stretch the aspect ratio of the screen from 23:9 to 24.5:9.
Keep in mind that while the size might change slightly to allow you to use the phone like a little tablet, it ultimately changes the resolution.
The outside display boasts an HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel that comes with a resolution of 2316 x 904 pixels alongside. The inner display, however, boasts a QXGA+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 2208 x 1786 pixels.
Both support refresh rates of adaptive 120Hz. Adaptive, in this context, means it can vary between 48Hz and 120Hz depending on what’s on the screen.
3. The Galaxy Z Fold4 Has Up to 12 GB RAM
Similar to other versions of the Galaxy Z Fold, the Fold4 will support up to 12 GB of RAM. Does that sound like an overheating issue to you? Thankfully, it doesn’t look like it will be for the Fold4 smartphone.
Samsung stopped including its Exynos processors in this version of the Galaxy Fold. Instead, they’ve included the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processor here.
In fact, reports say that Samsung included this processor in all of the flagship smartphones launching as of late 2022. So, while this means that the RAM is about the same as the Fold3, you can expect fewer overheating issues and slightly improved processing.
4. Enjoy Up to 1TB of Storage
Speaking of RAM, what about the storage capacity of the Galaxy Fold4? As you might know, the Galaxy Fold3 only allowed you to choose between 256GB or 512GB of usable internal memory. The Galaxy Fold4 allows you to kick that all the way up to 1TB.
However, there’s currently somewhat of a catch. Reportedly, as the phone is launched, you can only purchase the 1TB model of the Galaxy Fold4 on the Samsung website.
For example, we know that the 512GB model will be available in standard gray, beige, and black colors. However, there is an exclusive burgundy option for the 512GB model as well.
5. Galaxy Z Fold4 Camera is Similar to the Samsung Galaxy S22
If you have previously used a Samsung Galaxy S22 camera then expect similar quality from the Galaxy Z Fold4. This is big news as one of the biggest complaints that users had about the Galaxy Z Fold3 was that it didn’t stack up to the Galaxy S released in 2021.
However, with the Fold4, Samsung seems to have taken users’ complaints to heart. The Galaxy Z Fold4 boats a 10-megapixel telephoto lens. However, that lens has some power. 3x optical zoom and a 30x Space Zoom allow you to snap some impressive photos.
Note that the Galaxy Z Fold3 only had 2x optical zoom on the main camera.
The main camera on the Fold4 is the same as the Galaxy S22. This means that you can enjoy a 50MP main camera for regular photo-taking and a 12MP ultrawide camera.
6. The Internal Camera is Less Visible
Unfortunately, one big complaint that users had about the Galaxy Fold3 was that the internal camera was super visible on the screen. With a foldable phone, this does seem like something that’s pretty unavoidable. However, competitors have gotten around it.
With the Galaxy Z Fold4, Samsung has improved the look of the internal camera quite a bit, honestly. On a regular screen, we’d say that it’s well over half as noticeable as it is on the Fold3.
When do you tend to see it the most? If you’ve set your screen to a super dim lighting setting or it’s fully black and reflections are hitting it. Aside from that, it’s definitely less of an issue than it was with the Samsung Z Fold3.
And, unfortunately, the camera hasn’t been updated outside of that. The internal selfie camera is still 4MP like the Fold3. Our suggestion is to use the main cover camera, which is 10 megapixels for selfies that you’re going to edit or use for printing photocopies.
7. The Galaxy Fold4 Features the New Android 12L Software
Before we get into what Android 12L is, let’s make this important distinction. The Galaxy Fold4 will feature this new software. However, the Galaxy Flip 4 won’t. So, if you’re interested in both Samsung phones, the Galaxy Fold4 might be better for you in terms of software.
If you’ve used the Google Pixel phones, then you’ll be familiar with Android 12L. However, aside from Google Pixels, no other smartphone on the market is currently using 12L software.
The biggest benefit of this new software is the Android 12L taskbar which makes navigating the phone a lot easier. It looks a lot like a taskbar you might see on a desktop computer or iPad tablet.
Likewise, it enables users to enjoy more intuitive drag-and-drop features that make using the Galaxy Fold4 a lot easier and quicker than before. Count on improved and faster screen splitting than before as well.
While this might not seem like a big deal, it’s actually enabled the phone to adapt better to certain apps. This allows you to get the most out of your dual screen. And, honestly, with such a high price tag, you’re going to want to get the most out of it that you can.
8. There Are Complaints About the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Battery Life
With a 4,400mAh battery, the Fold4 isn’t too shabby. However, there have already been a lot of complaints about this phone’s battery life. It was a similar story to the Galaxy Z Fold3 when it was released, too.
The Galaxy Fold3 lasted a total of 8 hours and 15 minutes in screen tests when people were simply browsing. When they went to stream videos, they found that a user could stream YouTube videos for 7 hours straight without running out of battery. That's pretty impressive.
However, the complaints seemed to come from the fact that that kind of battery life didn't last long. Apparently, in a subsequent battery test about six months later, the rating went way down. With the inclusion of the new processor, people hope that the 4,400mAh battery will last longer due to the improved combination.
So far, browsing tests performed with a Fold4 show that you can expect to get well over 12 hours of browsing time when your battery is new. That's extremely impressive. However, that's to be expected when you're paying nearly $1,800 for a phone.
Considering the fact that Galaxy tablets are currently well under that price range and feature less battery life, it makes sense that the Fold4 would have improved battery and charging capabilities.
9. Fold4 is Lighter Than Fold3
The Galaxy Fold4 is lighter than the Galaxy Fold3, but not by much. The total weight of the Fold4 comes in at about 263g whereas the Gold 3 weighs 271g. That’s a difference of 8g, or about the weight of a phone case or pair of earrings.
So, while that difference isn’t much, it does mean that when you add a phone case to your Galaxy Fold4, you’re not going to weigh it down even more.
Likewise, the Galaxy Z Fold4 is slightly thinner. However, you can expect a difference of only about 0.2mm in thickness. It is 3mm shorter as well. Again, while this isn't that much of a difference, it's nice to know that Samsung Fold phones are getting smaller and easier to carry around as the new generations are released.
10. You Can Get a Discount for Trading Your Old Samsung Phone
If you’re a loyal Samsung user, then you can actually trade in your old phone to get a discount on the Galaxy Fold4. While the total amount you can get depends on your current phone, you can get up to $900 for qualifying trade-ins.
And, if you purchase the phone in-store, you can qualify for other great discounts and offers. This includes a standing cover that features a pen case for your S-Pen. In some cases, it includes $100 of in-store credit to spend on other Samsung products.
If you’re not sure whether or not you qualify for a discount or trade-in offer, our suggestion is to visit your nearest Samsung store. To find out where that is, simply check out the Samsung Store Locator.
Is the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 Worth Buying?
The answer is complicated and ultimately comes down to what you’re looking for in a phone.
The Galaxy Z Fold4 is a great phone for those who want the best of both worlds: a powerful smartphone that can also be used as a tablet. It has a beautiful display, a great camera, and plenty of storage.
It might be right for you if you watch lots of movies and TV shows on your phone. The gorgeous 6.7-inch display is big enough to watch movies on but not so big that it's unwieldy. Additionally, the foldable design makes it easy to carry around in your pocket or purse.
If you take a lot of photos and currently have a Fold3 then upgrading to the Fold4 might also make sense. The camera on the Fold4 is incredible. It takes superb photos and videos, even in low light.
So, if you're looking for a top-of-the-line smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold4 is definitely worth considering. However, if all you do is open a few apps and send messages on your phone then we’d suggest waiting for the price of the Galaxy Fold4 to come down before getting one.
